What is STANS about?

Marshall Bruce Mathers III, better known as Eminem, emerged from Detroit’s underground hip-hop scene in the late 1990s. The rapper, songwriter and producer is considered one of the greatest and most influential rappers of all time. Even though he broke down barriers for white rappers, he became a controversial figure. However, his talents helped him create the best selling hip-hop album of all time.

As a result, he has accumulated a legion of loyal super fans around the world leading him to create the song Stan. Released in 2000, it’s about an obsessive, unstable fan. The song was so popular, the term “stan” was officially added to the Oxford English Dictionary in 2017. It serves as the storyline for his new film which follows a cast of real-life stans. Many of their connections with Eminem mirror the lyrics of the song. Much like the song, the story is told from the fan’s perspective.

“’Stan’ is one of the most unconventional songs ever written, where the story is mostly told from a fan’s perspective, so this film was an incredible opportunity to find a unique approach,” says director Steven Leckart. “We kept coming back to one lyric from the song: ‘I’m just like you.’ Fans who echo that same sentiment carry much of the film. But like the song, Marshall’s perspective was also essential to the movie. I’m grateful for just how candid, sincere and frequently hilarious he was.”

How to watch STANS?

After it’s limited theatrical run, the film makes its streaming debut exclusively on Paramount+ on August 26, 2025 in the U.S., Canada, Latin America and Brazil. On August 27, the film will premiere in U.K., Australia, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Finally, it will debut in Japan on October 3.
